"Give a witness for the hope that lies within you."  So St. Peter told the Diaspora.  This is not something that is optional for Catholics.  Whatever we do, we must always provide a witness for the hope of Jesus Christ.  Sometimes this involves giving a defense of the faith, and in refuting the errors of various attacks against the Catholic Church.
